A Prayer for the Long Life of Sogyal Rinpoche

མཐའ་ཀླས་སྤྲོས་མཚན་ཉེར་ཞི་ཆོས་སྐུའི་ཀློང༌། །

talé trötsen nyerzhi chökü long

In the expanse of dharmakāya, beyond extremes, where all conceptual elaboration is pacified,

འགག་མེད་བདེ་ཆེན་ལོངས་སྐུའི་དཀྱིལ་འཁོར་ལས། །

gakmé dechen longkü kyilkhor lé

From the unceasing great bliss of the saṃbhogakāya mandala,

ཡོངས་ཤར་སྤྲུལ་སྐུ་མཚོ་སྐྱེས་རྒྱལ་བ་ཡིས། །

yong shar tulku tsokyé gyalwa yi

Arises the nirmāṇakāya, the ‘Lake-born buddha’, Padmasambhava—

ཕྱོགས་དུས་ཀུན་ཏུ་དགེ་བའི་དགའ་སྟོན་སྩོལ། །

chok dü küntu gewé gatön tsol

Grant us, we pray, a joyful feast of virtue, universal and everlasting!

རྒྱལ་ཀུན་ཡེ་ཤེས་རྡོ་རྗེ་སྙིང་པོའི་ཁམས། །

gyal kün yeshe dorjé nyingpö kham

From the indestructible moon of buddha nature—the wisdom of all the Victorious Ones,

བསོ༵ད་ནམ༵ས་བྱེ་བའི་བསིལ་ཟེར་ཡོངས་རྫོགས་པའི། །

sönam jewé sil zer yongdzokpé

You shine your cooling light—the rays of billion-fold acts of merit,

རྒྱལ༵་བསྟན་ཀུན་ད་སྐྱོང་བའི་གཉེན་གཅིག་པུ། །

gyalten künda kyongwé nyen chikpu

And like the moon that nurtures the night-flowering jasmine, you alone preserve and uphold the Buddha’s teachings—

སྙིགས་དུས་མཚ༵ན་མོའི་མགོན་པོ་ཞབས་བརྟན་གསོལ། །

nyikdü tsenmö gönpo zhabten sol

Protector in this dark night of the degenerate age, may your life be long!

སྔོན་བསགས་ཚོགས་གཉིས་ནོར་འཛིན་ཁྱོན་ཡངས་པོར། །

ngön sak tsok nyi nordzin khyön yangpor

In the vast, spacious earth of the two accumulations you gathered in the past,

རླབས་ཆེན་ཐུགས་བསྐྱེད་རྩ་བ་རབ་བརྟན་ཅིང༌། །

lab chen tukkyé tsawa rabten ching

The roots of your great and noble aspirations are firmly planted,

གྲུབ་གཉིས་འབྲས་བུའི་ཡལ་འདབ་ཡོངས་དུད་པ། །

drub nyi drebü yaldab yong düpa

And you are replete with the abundant fruit of supreme and ordinary siddhis—

རིག་འཛིན་དཔག་བསམ་ལྗོན་དབང་ཞབས་བརྟན་གསོལ། །

rigdzin paksam jönwang zhabten sol

Vidyādhara, you who are like a wish-fulfilling tree, may your life be long!

འཛམ་གླིང་ཤར་ནུབ་ཡུལ་གྲུ་དུ་མ་རུ། །

dzamling shar nub yuldru duma ru

All over this world, in many lands, east and west,

སྐལ་ལྡན་བསོ༵ད་ནམ༵ས་ཅན་གྱི་མོས་བློ་བཞིན། །

kalden sönam chen gyi mö lo zhin

According to the aspirations of those fortunate ones with stores of merit,

གང་འདུལ་ཆོས་ཀྱི་བདུད་རྩི་སྟོན་མཛད་པ། །

gang dul chö kyi dütsi tön dzepa

You reveal the nectar of Dharma, teaching in timely and appropriate ways—

བསྟན་པའི་རྒྱལ༵་མཚ༵ན་འཛིན་མཁས་ཞབས་བརྟན་གསོལ། །

tenpé gyaltsen dzin khé zhabten sol

You who are skilled at raising the victory banner of the Buddha’s teachings, may your life be long!

བསླུ་མེད་དཀོན་མཆོག་གསུམ་གྱི་བྱིན་རླབས་དང༌། །

lumé könchok sum gyi jinlab dang

Through the blessings of the Three Jewels, who are unfailing,

དམ་ཅན་ཆོས་སྐྱོང་སྲུང་མའི་མཐུ་རྩལ་དང༌། །

damchen chökyong sungmé tutsal dang

The strength of mighty oath-bound Dharma protectors and guardians,

ཆོས་དབྱིངས་རྣམ་པར་དག་པའི་བདེན་སྟོབས་ཀྱིས། །

chöying nampar dakpé den tob kyi

And the power of the utter purity of the dharmadhātu,

སྨོན་པའི་དོན་ཀུན་བདེ་བླག་འགྲུབ་གྱུར་ཅིག །

mönpé dön kün delak drub gyur chik

May the meaning of this aspiration of ours be instantly and effortlessly effected!

ཅེས་པ་འདི་ཡང་རིག་པ་ཆོས་ཚོགས་ཀྱི་སློབ་ཚོགས་ཡོངས་ནས་བསྐུལ་མ་མཛད་པ་བཞིན་ས་སྐྱ་ཁྲི་འཛིན་ངག་དབང་ཀུན་དགས་བྲིས་པ་དོན་དང་ལྡན་པར་གྱུར་ཅིག། །།
