Lopön Sonam Jamtsho comes from a semi-nomadic family in the picturesque region of Bumthang, Bhutan, a place where the eminent Longchenpa resided for nearly a decade. After completing high school in Bhutan, Sonam joined Dzongsar Shedra, from where he graduated after a decade-long study. Upon the guidance and advice of Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche, he studied for a master’s and doctoral degree at the University of Hamburg.
Currently, he is a postdoctoral researcher in Tibetan and Buddhist Studies at the same university. Additionally, he teaches and interprets for the Milinda Program, consults and translates for the Khyentse Vision Project, interprets for Tibetan Dharma teachers, and regularly gives weekend Dharma seminars, at the invitation of interested groups.
