Young Lady Rutro
Young Lady Rutro[1]
from the Ḍākinīs' Great Dharma Treasury
In a place called Lei Chan (les khran), there lived a young lady in the Rutro clan[2] who continually recited Buddhist scriptures for thirty years. As she recited the Diamond Cutter Sūtra, she perceived many buddhas and bodhisattvas coming into her presence. When this occurred, she dared not stay seated and continued her recitations while standing. For forty days, she remained standing and chanting without taking a drop of water or a grain of food.
Later on, in a dream, three monks holding one lotus flower in their hands appeared at her home and said to her, “This lotus is holding your place. Please come here yourself soon.” When she woke, she felt immeasurable joy and sent for monks to come to her home to recite prayers. As they recited, then and there, she passed into the peace of basic space.
