The Story of Lady Hren
The Story of Lady Hren
from the Ḍākinīs' Great Dharma Treasury
In a place called Qian Tang, [1] Lady Hren recited the Amitābha Sūtra every day of her life and never stopped reciting Buddha Amitābha’s name.
One day, she was struck by an illness, so she washed her body in a pure bath and turned to face the west.[2] With her hands folded in devotion, she called out to her family,
Do you hear the sound of Dharma coming from the pure land of Great Bliss? I hear it so clearly! Lord Avalokiteśvara says that he is coming to welcome me!
Just after saying this, boundless joy suffused her face, and, again folding her hands in devotion, she said to her family,
The buddhas and bodhisattvas have come to welcome me! Avalokiteśvara is inviting me to sit on a golden lotus in his hand! It is time for me to go!
With that, she passed away.
