Prayer for Sumatra

༄༅། །གསེར་གླིང་བསྟན་རྒྱས་སྨོན་ལམ།

Aspiration for the Spread of the Teachings in Sumatra¹

ཨོཾ་སྭསྟི། །

om svasti

Oṃ svasti.

ཕྱོགས་བཅུའི་རྒྱལ་བ་སྲས་དང་བཅས་པ་དང་། །

chok chü gyalwa sé dang chepa dang

Through the blessings of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the ten directions

ཁྱད་པར་དྷརྨ་ཀིརྟིའི་བྱིན་རླབས་ཀྱིས། །

khyepar dharma kirti jinlab kyi

And those of Dharmakīrti,² in particular,

འགྲོ་ཀུན་གཏན་གྱི་བདེ་བ་ལ་འགོད་པའི། །

dro kün ten gyi dewa la göpé

In this land to which the teachings that establish all beings in the state of lasting peace,

བྱང་ཆུབ་ལམ་བཟང་ཐུན་མིན་ཐེག་པ་ཆེ། །

changchub lamzang tünmin tekpa ché

The uncommon Great Vehicle, the fine path to awakening,

དར་བའི་སུ་མ་ཏ་ར་གསེར་གླིང་འདིར། །

darwé suma tara ser ling dir

Once spread—the Golden Isle of Sumatra,

བསྟན་པ་སྤྱི་དང་ལྷག་པར་བློ་སྦྱོང་ལམ། །

tenpa chi dang lhakpar lojong lam

May the teachings of the Buddha in general and the path of Mind Training in particular

འཛམ་གླིང་སྐྱེ་དགུའི་བསོད་ནམས་བགོ་སྐལ་དུ། །

dzamling kyegü sönam go kal du

Flourish as a share of the merit of all the beings of this world,

སྔར་བཞིན་དར་རྒྱས་ལོངས་སུ་སྤྱོད་པ་ཡི། །

ngar zhin dargyé long su chöpa yi

Just as they did before, and may everyone

སྐལ་བཟང་དཔལ་ལ་རྟག་ཏུ་རོལ་པར་ཤོག །

kalzang pal la taktu rolpar shok

Always enjoy such splendour and good fortune!

ཅེས་པའང་མཉམ་མེད་གསེར་གླིང་པས་བྱིན་གྱིས་བརླབས་པའི་གནས་སུ་མ་ཏ་རའམ་གསེར་གླིང་དུ་སྲིབ་མདའ་དགེ་སྤྲུལ་རྣམ་དག་ཆོས་དབྱིངས་ནས་གདན་ཞུ་མཛད་པ་ལྟར་ཡུལ་ཁམས་འདིར་བསྐྱོད་པའི་སྐབས་དད་ལྡན་འགྱུར་མེད་ཆོས་གྲགས་༼ཇས་སན་༽ནས་བསྐུལ་ངོར་ཞེ་ཆེན་རབ་འབྱམས་བདུན་པས་ཆུ་ཡོས་ཟླ་ ༡༠ ཚེས་ ༢༤ ལ་སྨོན་པ་དགེ །

When, at the invitation of Simdha Getul Choying Namdak, I was on pilgrimage in Sumatra, also known as the Golden Isle, a land blessed by the incomparable Serlingpa, inspired by the place and at the urging of my friend with faith, Gyurme Chödrak (Jason), I, the Seventh Shechen Rabjam, composed this prayer on the 24th day of the tenth month of the Water Rabbit year.³ May it be virtuous!
