Empowerments as Guidance

How to Bestow the Empowerments as Thematic Guidance

from the Khandro Nyingtik

The way to bestow the ripening empowerments as thematic guidance is as follows.

  • First, bestow the vase empowerment on beginner-level students and direct them to practice approach based on the three sādhanas[1] of the five families of yidam deity until the indications are complete.

  • Then, bestow the secret empowerment and direct them to practice any form of inner heat (Tib. tummo) until the indications are complete.

  • Then, bestow the knowledge-wisdom empowerment and direct them to rely upon a consort (Skt. mudrā) until the essences (Skt. bindu) are serviceable toward the goal of bliss and emptiness.

  • Then, bestow the word empowerment and direct them to meditate on the meaning of Trekchö until they gain recognition.

  • Then, bestow the expressivity [of awareness] empowerment (Tib. tsalwang; rtsal dbang), introduce Tögal, and direct them to meditate until the four visions are completed.

There is also nothing incongruous about bestowing all the empowerments at the same time. Still, it is especially good for them to be given successively as thematic guidance.
