The Heart-Essence of Good Fortune

A Ritual to Raise Windhorse and Increase Merit Based on the Great Leonine King of Tibet

བསོད་ནམས་རླུང་རྟ་བསྐྱེད་པའི་ཆོ་ག་སྐལ་བཟང་སྙིང་གི་ཐིག་ལེ་ནི། འདི་ལྟར་རང་གི་རིག་པ་དྲི་མ་མེད་པ་ཀ་དག་ཀུན་ཏུ་བཟང་པོ་རང་བྱུང་པདྨ་རྒྱལ་པོ། ལྷུན་གྲུབ་ནོར་བུ་དགྲ་འདུལ་རང་ཞལ་མཇལ་བའི་གདིང་ལ་དཔའ་བསྐྱེད་དེ། ཆོས་སྐྱོང་དགྲ་བླ་བསྟོད་པའི་མཇུག་ཏུ་འདི་ལྟར་གྱེར་བར་བྱའོ། །

In this ritual, The Heart-Essence of Good Fortune, for raising windhorse and increasing merit, we summon our confidence and courage by looking at the face of the self-arising Lotus King Guru Rinpoche—the wisdom of our own rigpa-awareness, unstained primordial purity and Samantabhadra—and of spontaneous presence, Norbu Dradül. Chant the following prayer after the offering of praises to the dharma protectors and dralas.

 

ཧཱུྃ། ལྷུན་གྲུབ་པདྨ་ལས་སྐྱེས་མཚན་དཔེའི་སྐུ། །

hung, lhündrub pema lé kyé tsenpé ku

Hūṃ. Your spontaneously present form, born in a lotus and endowed with the marks and signs,

དགྲ་བླའི་ཆས་ཀྱིས་བརྗིད་ཀྱང་གང་གི་ཐུགས། །

dralé ché kyi ji kyang gang gi tuk

Is clothed in the dralas’ resplendent armour,

རིག་འཛིན་གཙོ་བོ་ཉིད་ལས་མི་གཞན་པ། །

rigdzin tsowo nyi lé mi zhenpa

While your wisdom mind is that of the lord of vidyādharas, Guru Rinpoche.

འགྱུར་མེད་རྒྱལ་པོ་དོན་གྲུབ་སྐྱེས་བུ་ནི། །

gyurmé gyalpo döndrub kyebu ni

Triumphant and unchanging King Döndrup!

 

འགྲོ་བ་ཀུན་ལ་བདེ་སྐྱིད་དམ་བཅའ་བ། །

drowa kün la dekyi damchawa

The power of your promise to ensure the happiness and welfare of all beings,

ཚད་མེད་བརྩེ་བའི་དབང་གིས་འདོད་པའི་དོན། །

tsemé tsewé wang gi döpé dön

And your immeasurable love, grants all I wish for;

བསྒྲུབ་ཕྱིར་བདག་ཡིད་དྭངས་མའི་ཐིག་ལེ་རུ། །

drub chir dak yi dangmé tiklé ru

Remain as one with the bindu of pure mind,

རོ་གཅིག་བཞུགས་པས་དངོས་གྲུབ་གཉིས་ཐོབ་མཛོད། །

ro chik zhukpé ngödrub nyi tob dzö

And grant me the two types of accomplishment!

 

ཕྱོགས་བཅུའི་ཞིང་བཞུགས་བདེ་གཤེགས་སྲས་བཅས་དང༌། །

chok chü zhing zhuk deshek sé ché dang

Make the sugatas and their heirs who dwell in the ten directions,

ཡི་དམ་མཁའ་འགྲོ་སྐྱབས་འོས་ལྷ་ཚོགས་ཀྱི། །

yidam khandro kyabö lhatsok kyi

The yidam and ḍākinī deities and all the worthy sources of refuge,

སྐུ་གསུང་ཐུགས་ཡོན་ཕྲིན་ལས་བྱིན་དབབ་ཅིང༌། །

ku sung tuk yön trinlé jin wab ching

Shower me with the blessings of their enlightened body, speech, mind, qualities and activities,

ཕུན་ཚོགས་སྡེ་བཞིར་དབང་བའི་རླུང་རྟ་བསྐྱེད། །

püntsok dé zhir wangwé lungta kyé

And raise the windhorse of power over the four aspects of well-being!

 

མི་བཟད་མཐུ་མངའ་ཆོས་སྐྱོང་སྲུང་མའི་ཚོགས། །

mi zé tu nga chökyong sungmé tsok

Grant a deluge of all the fiercely powerful dharma protectors and guardians—

ཇི་སྙེད་མ་ལུས་རྒྱ་མཚོར་ཆར་བཞིན་དུ། །

jinyé malü gyatsor char zhindu

Let them dissolve into my body, speech and mind,

ལུས་ངག་ཡིད་ལ་ཐིམ་པའི་བྱིན་ནུས་ཀྱིས། །

lü ngak yi la timpé jin nü kyi

And through the power of their blessings,

མཐུ་རྩལ་ཕུན་སུམ་ཚོགས་པའི་རླུང་རྟ་བསྐྱེད། །

tutsal pünsum tsokpé lungta kyé

May the windhorse of perfect power and strength rise!

 

དྲི་བཟང་པདྨོར་ལྡིང་བའི་བུང་བ་ལྟར། །

dri zang pemor dingwé bungwa tar

Dralas and wermas of the universe,

སྲིད་དོ་ཅོག་གི་དགྲ་བླ་ཝེར་མའི་ཚོགས། །

si do chok gi drala wermé tsok

Come and swarm inside the body of the great being Gesar

སྐྱེས་བུའི་སྐུ་ལ་སྤྲིན་ཕུང་བཞིན་འདུ་བས། །

kyebü ku la trinpung zhin duwé

Like bees in a fragrant lotus,

གང་བསམ་ལས་ལ་དབང་བའི་རླུང་རྟ་བསྐྱེད། །

gang sam lé la wangwé lungta kyé

And raise the windhorse that grants me the power to accomplish everything I wish!

 

འཇིག་རྟེན་ཁམས་སུ་རྒྱུ་བའི་རིགས་ལྡན་དང༌། །

jikten kham su gyuwé rikden dang

May spirits and elemental demons

འབྱུང་པོའི་ཚོགས་ཀྱིས་སྲུང་ཞིང་ཕན་པའི་སེམས། །

jungpö tsok kyi sung zhing penpé sem

Who roam the realms of the world

ཉ་གང་ཟླ་བའི་དཀྱིལ་འཁོར་ལྟར་དཀར་བས། །

nyagang dawé kyilkhor tar karwé

Protect me and be inspired by altruism, their minds as white as a full moon,

མཐུན་རྐྱེན་རླབས་ཆེན་འཕྲོ་བའི་རླུང་རྟ་བསྐྱེད། །

tünkyen lab chen trowé lungta kyé

And raise the windhorse that powerfully grants positive circumstances!

 

པདྨོ་གཞོན་ནུར་འཆར་ཁའི་ཉི་ཟེར་བཞིན། །

pemo zhönnur char khé nyizer zhin

Like the rays of sunlight that make the young lotus blossom,

འགྲོ་བ་ཀུན་གྱི་བསམ་དང་སྦྱོར་བའི་ཚུལ། །

drowa kün gyi sam dang jorwé tsul

Inspire the thoughts and actions of all beings

བདག་གི་མཐུན་རྐྱེན་གྲོགས་སུ་འཆར་བ་ཡིས། །

dak gi tünkyen drok su charwa yi

To support the positive circumstances I need

ཡིད་འོང་དགའ་སྟོན་སྟོང་གི་རླུང་རྟ་བསྐྱེད། །

yi ong gatön tong gi lungta kyé

And raise the windhorse that grants the delight of a thousand celebrations!

 

མཁའ་མཉམ་ཞིང་གི་དཔལ་དང་ཡོན་ཏན་ཀུན། །

khanyam zhing gi pal dang yönten kün

Merit, like the moon

ཅིག་ཆར་དབང་དུ་གྱུར་པའི་ཟླ་བ་ཡིས། །

chikchar wang du gyurpé dawa yi

Which reigns over every excellence in all buddha fields,

དཀར་ཕྱོགས་དགའ་བའི་ཀུནྡ་འཛུམ་ནུས་པའི། །

karchok gawé kunda dzum nüpé

Has the power to make the kunda flower of ‘delight in virtue’ blossom;

མི་ཟད་བསོད་ནམས་རླུང་རྟའི་དཔལ་ཡོན་བསྐྱེད། །

mizé sönam lungté palyön kyé

May the excellence and qualities of the windhorse of inexhaustible merit rise!

 

སྲིད་འདིར་མངོན་མཐོས་སྙེམས་པའི་གཙུག་ཉིད་ལ། །

si dir ngön tö nyempé tsuk nyi la

May my two feet perform the overpowering dance

ཟིལ་གནོན་གར་གྱིས་རོལ་པའི་ཞབས་གཉིས་པོ། །

zilnön gar gyi rolpé zhab nyipo

On the heads of the proud leaders of the world,

དགྲ་སྡེའི་སྤྱི་བོར་ལེན་པའི་དབང་མངའ་བ། །

dra dé chiwor lenpé wang ngawa

And may I have the power to grab enemy factions from the crown of their heads and dominate them—

མི་བཟད་ཤུགས་ལྡན་རྡོ་རྗེའི་རླུང་རྟ་བསྐྱེད། །

mi zé shukden dorjé lungta kyé

Raise the windhorse of the vajra endowed with fierce strength!

 

འགལ་རྐྱེན་ཀུན་ཞི་འདོད་ཅིང་རེ་བའི་དོན། །

galkyen kün zhi dö ching rewé dön

May adverse circumstances be pacified and may my hopes and wishes

མ་ལུས་གེགས་མེད་ཡིད་བཞིན་འགྲུབ་པ་ཡིས། །

malü gekmé yizhin drubpa yi

Be accomplished as intended, without obstacles.

ལས་རྣམས་བསྒྲུབ་ལ་ཐོགས་མེད་མཐུ་ལྡན་པས། །

lé nam drub la tokmé tu denpé

May I have the capacity to fulfil each task perfectly,

ཕྱོགས་ལས་རྣམ་པར་རྒྱལ་བའི་རླུང་རྟ་བསྐྱེད། །

chok lé nampar gyalwé lungta kyé

And by doing so, raise the windhorse of victory over all adversity!

 

བདེ་གཤེགས་སྙིང་པོ་ཀུན་ཁྱབ་གདོད་མ་ནས། །

deshek nyingpo künkhyab döma né

Within buddha nature, primordially present in all sentient beings, Everything is spontaneously accomplished,

དོན་ཀུན་ལྷུན་གྲུབ་གང་ཁྱོད་དྲན་པས་ཀྱང༌། །

dön kün lhündrub gang khyö drenpé kyang

Yet as soon as I think of you,

དོན་རྣམས་འགྲུབ་མཛད་དོན་གྲུབ་སྐྱེས་བུ་ཡིས། །

dön nam drub dzé döndrub kyebu yi

You accomplish what I need—O great being Döndrup,

དོན་ཀུན་འབད་མེད་འགྲུབ་པའི་རླུང་རྟ་བསྐྱེད། །

dön kün bemé drubpé lungta kyé

Raise the windhorse that effortlessly achieves everything I wish for!

 

རང་རིག་ཐིག་ལེ་ཉག་གཅིག་ཆོས་ཀྱི་སྐུ། །

rangrig tiklé nyakchik chö kyi ku

Self-awareness, sole bindu, dharmakāya,

གདོད་ནས་རྒྱལ་བ་ཀུན་དང་མི་གཉིས་པ། །

döné gyalwa kün dang mi nyipa

Ever inseparable from all the victorious ones,

རང་བྱུང་པདྨའི་ངོ་བོར་རྣམ་དག་པས། །

rangjung pemé ngowor namdakpé

Self-arising Padma, whose essence is utter purity,

འགྲོ་ཀུན་གདོད་མའི་གཞི་ལ་གྲོལ་བྱེད་ཤོག །

dro kün dömé zhi la drol jé shok

Liberate all beings within the primordial ground!

 

དེ་ལྟར་མ་གྱུར་གནས་སྐབས་ཐམས་ཅད་དུ། །

detar magyur nekab tamché du

You who are all the victorious ones, you who are their heart,

རྒྱལ་བ་ཀུན་དང་རྒྱལ་ཀུན་སྙིང་པོ་ནི། །

gyalwa kün dang gyal kün nyingpo ni

Accomplish all the activities of the sugatas, for the benefit of all mother sentient beings.

མཚོ་སྐྱེས་རྡོ་རྗེས་ཁྱོད་དོན་འགྲུབ་གྱུར་ཅེས། །

tsokyé dorjé khyö dön drub gyur ché

Lake-born Vajra, one who successfully accomplishes the buddhas’ activities,

དཔལ་ཀུན་རྩོལ་བའི་མེ་ཏོག་གཏོར་གྱུར་ཅིག །

pal kün tsolwé metok tor gyur chik

May the flowers of auspiciousness of your glorious efforts be scattered!

 

ཅེས་བརྗོད་དེ་འཛམ་གླིང་རྒྱལ་པོ་གེ་སར་མདུན་དུ་བསྒོམས་པ་རང་ལ་དབྱེར་མེད་དུ་ཐིམ་པར་བསམ་ནས་འདི་ལྟར་གྱེར་ཞིང་རིག་པ་དྲི་མེད་ཀྱི་ངང་བསྐྱང་བཞིན། བསམ་ལྷུན་སིདྡྷི་གང་མང་བསྒྲག་ན། རླུང་རྟ་སྙན་པའི་བ་དན་དགེ་མཚན་རླུང་གིས་བསྐྱོད་པས་ཕྱོགས་བཅུར་གྲགས་པ་རྒྱས། ལས་བྱས་པ་རྣོ་མྱུར་ཐོགས་མེད་དུ་འོང༌། ལེགས་པའི་ཕྱོགས་ལ་འཕྲད། ཉེས་པར་བསྣོལ། རྒྱལ་ཁ་ཐོབ་སྟེ་མི་ཡི་ཁྱུ་མཆོག་ཏུ་མངའ་གསོལ་བར་འགྱུར་རོ། །དེ་ལྟར་བྱུང་བར་དངོས་སུ་ཉམས་དང་སྣང་བ་དཔའ་བ་སོགས་དང༌། རྨི་ལམ་དུ་རྟ་ཕོ་ཞོན་པ། རོལ་མོ་སྒྲོགས་པ། བ་དན་ཕྱར་བ། རི་ལ་འཛེགས་པ། གྱི་ལིང་འབྲུག་དང་སེངྒེ་སྟག་ལ་སོགས་པར་ཞོན་པ་སོགས་ངོ་མཚར་བའི་རྟགས་འབྱུང་ངོ༌། །

As you say these words, meditate on the king of the world, Gesar. Visualize him in front of you. Imagine he dissolves into you and you become indivisible from him, and chant this prayer, as you maintain the recognition of stainless rigpa-awareness. Recite the Sampa Lhundrupma and as many Vajra Guru mantra as you can. By practicing in this way, the wind will move the sweet sounding, inspiring and auspicious flag of the windhorse, the virtuous banner, and it will be heard throughout the ten directions. Your actions will be sharp, fast and seamless. You will encounter positive circumstances and good people. They will overcome the negative ones. You will triumph and be enthroned as the leader of mankind. You will become more powerful and so on, in life and in your experiences and visions. Extraordinary signs will appear in your dreams, such as riding a steed, hearing music, raising banners, climbing mountains, riding supreme Gyiling horses, dragons, lions, tigers and the like.

ཀ་དག་རིག་པའི་རྒྱལ་པོ་པདྨ་སྐྱེས། །
ལྷུན་གྲུབ་ནོར་བུ་དགྲ་འདུལ་འབོད་པའི་རྗེ། །
དབྱེར་མེད་ཐིག་ལེ་གཅིག་པའི་སྒྱུ་འཕྲུལ་ལས། །
དག་སྣང་མན་ངག་རིག་པའི་གསང་ནས་སྤེལ། །

This pith instruction from the secret depth of rigpa arose in a pure vision
As the magical display of the single bindu
In which the Lotus-Born King of primordially pure awareness,
And spontaneous presence, Norbu Dradül, are indivisible.

 

རང་ལོ་ཉི་ཤུ་པ་ཤིང་གླང་ཟླ་༡༠ཚེས་༥ལ་བྲིས་པ་མངྒ་ལཾ། །

I wrote this prayer at the age of twenty, on the fifth day of the tenth month of the Wood Ox year (1865). Maṅgalam.
