While Journeying to Samye Chimphu[1]

by Khenchen Jigme Phuntsok

Kyeho! Listen, my dear and fortunate friends.
For a yogi who has realized the equality of saṃsāra and nirvāṇa,
There is no need to search elsewhere for the pure realm
Of the spontaneously arisen Lotus King[2] and his retinue.

I have met the vidyādharas and hosts of ḍākinīs face to face
In the palace of the Copper-Coloured Mountain in my heart.
Yet it is truly fortunate to reach today this sacred place
With its pure deity images, inscriptions and footprints.

There can be no trace of any qualitative distinction
Or of perception of earth, stone or sand as impure.
All is pure, the infinite maṇḍala of the victorious.
Few are the fortunate who are capable of seeing this.

In the past, the seal of the Mahāguru’s aspiration
Was concealed in the youthful vase body within my heart.
The key of aware emptiness, dharmakāya realization, unlocked this,
And the knots of the 84000 sections of the Dharma were released at once.

I pray that the fortunate, samaya-keeping students gathered here
May soon gather in the palace upon the Glorious Mountain in Cāmara,
And there see directly the face of the Mahāguru,
As he is surrounded by clouds of vidyādharas and ḍākinīs.

While journeying to Samye Chimphu, in the vicinity of Drakmar Keutsang, the master heard many yogins melodiously chanting the Vajra Guru mantra in unison. Inspired by this experience, he spontaneously sang a response while still on horseback. His words were then transcribed from the tape recording.
