The Abbreviated Daily Practice for The Profound Essence of Tārā
revealed by Tertön Chokgyur Dechen Lingpa and arranged by Tsikey Chokling Rinpoche
ན་མོ་གུ་རུ་ཨཱརྻ་ཏཱ་རཱ་ཡཻ།
Namo Gurvyā Āryatārāyai!1
སྐྱབས་སེམས་ནི།
Refuge and Bodhicitta
མདུན་གྱི་ནམ་མཁར་རྗེ་བཙུན་མ་མངོན་སུམ་བཞུགས་པར་མོས་ལ།
dün gyi namkhar jetsünma ngönsum zhukpar gyur
There, in person, in the sky in front of me, is Arya Tārā,
ན་མོ།
namo
Homage!
དཀོན་མཆོག་ཀུན་དངོས་རྗེ་བཙུན་མར། །
könchok kün ngö jetsünmar
Sublime Lady, actual presence of the Three Jewels,
བདག་སོགས་འགྲོ་ཀུན་སྐྱབས་སུ་མཆི། །
dak sok dro kün kyab su chi
I take refuge in you, along with all living beings.
བྱང་ཆུབ་སྨོན་པའི་སེམས་བསྐྱེད་ནས། །
changchub mönpé semkyé né
Arousing the deep wish of bodhicitta,
ཟབ་མོའི་ལམ་ལ་འཇུག་པར་བགྱི། །
zabmö lam la jukpar gyi
I set out upon this profound path.
The Invocation
རང་ཉིད་སྐད་ཅིག་དྲན་རྫོགས་སུ༔
rangnyi kechik dren dzok su
Perfect and clear, the instant it comes to mind,
རྗེ་བཙུན་འཕགས་མའི་སྐུར་གསལ་བའི༔
jetsün pakmé kur salwé
I am the wisdom form of the Sublime Lady Tārā.
ཐུགས་ཀར་ཟླ་སྟེང་ཏཱྃ་ལྗང་གུ༔
tukkar da teng tam janggu
In my heart on a moon disc, a green tāṃ
དེ་ལས་འོད་ཟེར་དཔག་ཡས་འཕྲོས༔
dé lé özer pakyé trö
Beams out countless rays of light,
འཕགས་མ་རྣམ་འཕྲུལ་ཉེར་གཅིག་དང་༔
pakma namtrul nyerchik dang
Inviting the Sublime Lady’s twenty-one emanations,
དཀོན་མཆོག་རྒྱ་མཚོ་སྤྲིན་འཕྲོ་བ༔
könchok gyatso trin trowa
And, ringed by a vast cloud of precious enlightened beings,
མདུན་གྱི་ནམ་མཁར་སྤྱན་དྲངས་གྱུར༔
dün gyi namkhar chendrang gyur
They appear here in the sky before me.
པདྨ་ཀ་མ་ལཱ་ཡ་སྟྭཾ༔
pema kamala ya stam
padma-kamalāya stvam
བསྟོད་པའི་རྒྱལ་པོའི་རྒྱུད་ཕྱག་འཚལ་ཉེར་གཅིག་ཚར་གཅིག་བརྗོད།
Then recite The King of Praises Tantra, the Twenty-One Verses of Homage once.
Tārā Grants Refuge
ཕྱག་གཡས་མཆོག་སྦྱིན་ཕྱག་རྒྱ་ཉིད༔
chak yé chok jin chakgya nyi
Tārā’s right hand, in the gesture of supreme giving,
སྐྱབས་སྦྱིན་ཕྱག་རྒྱར་གྱུར་པའི་འོག༔
kyab jin chakgyar gyurpé ok
Gracefully forms the mudrā for granting refuge,
བདག་དང་བསྲུང་བྱ་ཀུན་ཚུད་ནས༔
dak dang sungja kün tsü né
Sheltering me and all who need protection,
འཇིགས་པ་ཀུན་ལས་དབུགས་དབྱུང་གྱུར༔
jikpa kün lé ukyung gyur
And bringing us certain relief from every fear.
ཅེས་མོས་ལ་ཕྱག་འཚལ་ཉེར་གཅིག་ཚར་གཅིག་བརྗོད།
Again, recite the Twenty-One Verses of Homage once.
སྐུ་ལས་བདུད་རྩིའི་ཆུ་རྒྱུན་བབས༔
ku lé dütsi chugyün bab
From Tārā’s body, a stream of nectar flows,
རང་དང་བསྲུང་བྱའི་སྤྱི་བོ་ནས༔
rang dang sungjé chiwo né
Into me and those to be protected through the crown of our head,
ཞུགས་ཏེ་ལུས་ཀུན་གང་བ་ཡིས༔
zhuk té lü kün gangwa yi
And fills our bodies completely,
བྱིན་རླབས་མ་ལུས་ཞུགས་པར་གྱུར༔
jinlab malü zhukpar gyur
Charging us with all of her blessings.
ཅེས་མོས་ལ་ཕྱག་འཚལ་ཉེར་གཅིག་ཚར་གཅིག་བརྗོད།
Again, recite the Twenty-One Verses of Homage once.
Merging with Tārā
མདུན་བསྐྱེད་འོད་ཞུ་རང་ལ་ཐིམ༔
dünkyé ö zhu rang la tim
Tārā visualized in front melts into light and dissolves into me,
དབྱེར་མེད་ཉིད་དུ་བྱིན་རླབས་པས༔
yermé nyi du jinlab pé
Her blessing making us indivisible.
རང་ཉིད་འཕགས་མ་སྒྲོལ་མའི་སྐུ༔
rangnyi pakma drolmé ku
I take on the form of the Sublime Lady,
སྣང་ལ་རང་བཞིན་མེད་པར་གྱུར༔
nang la rangzhin mepar gyur
Appearing, yet lacking real existence.
ཅེས་རང་ཉིད་འཕགས་མའི་གསལ་སྣང་དང་ང་རྒྱལ་ལ་སེམས་བཟུང་སྟེ་ཡི་གེ་བཅུ་པའི་བཟླས་པ་ཅི་འགྲུབ་མཐར།
Focusing on the clear appearance of the Sublime Lady and firm confidence that you are her, recite her ten-syllable mantra as many times as you can.
ཨོཾ་ཏཱ་རེ་ཏུཏྟཱ་རེ་ཏུ་རེ་སྭཱ་ཧཱ།
om taré tuttaré turé soha
oṃ tāre tuttāre ture svāhā
ཡིག་བརྒྱ་དང༌།
Then recite the hundred-syllable mantra.
ཨོཾ་བཛྲ་སཏྭ་ས་མ་ཡ། མ་ནུ་པཱ་ལ་ཡ། བཛྲ་སཏྭ་ཏྭེ་ནོ་པ་ཏིཥྛ་དྲྀ་ཌྷོ་མེ་བྷ་ཝ། སུ་ཏོ་ཥྱོ་མེ་བྷ་ཝ། སུ་པོ་ཥྱོ་མེ་བྷ་ཝ། ཨ་ནུ་རཀྟོ་མེ་བྷ་ཝ། སརྦ་སིདྡྷི་མྨེ་པྲ་ཡཙྪ། སརྦ་ཀརྨ་སུ་ཙ་མེ། ཙིཏྟཾ་ཤྲེ་ཡཾ། ཀུ་རུ་ཧཱུྂ། ཧ་ཧ་ཧ་ཧ་ཧོཿ བྷ་ག་ཝཱན། སརྦ་ཏ་ཐཱ་ག་ཏ་བཛྲ་མཱ་མེ་མུཉྩ་བཛྲཱི་བྷ་ཝ་མ་ཧཱ་ས་མ་ཡ་སཏྭ་ཨཱཿ
om benza sato samaya manupalaya benza sato tenopa tishta dridho mé bhava sutokhayo mé bhava supokhayo mé bhava anurakto mé bhava sarva siddhi mé prayaccha sarva karma su tsa mé tsittam shreyang kuru hung ha ha ha ha ho bhagavan sarva tatagata benza ma mé muntsa benzi bhava maha samaya sato ah
oṃ vajrasattva samayam anupālaya vajrasattva-tvenopa-tiṣṭha dṛḍho me bhava sutoṣyo me bhava supoṣyo me bhava anurakto me bhava sarva-siddhiṃ me prayaccha sarva-karma śuca me cittaṃ śreyaṃ-kuru hūṃ ha ha ha ha hoḥ bhagavān sarva-tathāgata-vajra mā me muñca vajrī-bhava mahā-samaya-sattva āḥ
བཛྲ་མུཿ
benza muh
vajra muḥ
ཞེས་བརྗོད་ལ་མགྲོན་ཐབས་ཀྱི་ལྷ་རྣམས་གཤེགས།
Thus request the invited deities to depart.
Dissolution
ལྷ་དང་རང་སེམས་དབྱེར་མེད་པ༔
lha dang rangsem yermé pa
The deity is inseparable from my own mind,
ཆོས་དབྱིངས་གཉུག་མའི་ངང་དུ་བཞག༔
chöying nyukmé ngang du zhak
So, I rest within the original nature, dharmadhātu.
ཅེས་གནས་ལུགས་ཀྱི་ལྟ་བ་བསྐྱང༌།
Sustain the view of the fundamental nature.
Dedication and Aspiration
དགེ་བ་འདི་ཡིས་མྱུར་དུ་བདག །
gewa di yi nyurdu dak
Through this merit, may I swiftly
འཕགས་མ་སྒྲོལ་མ་འགྲུབ་གྱུར་ནས། །
pakma drolma drub gyur né
Accomplish Ārya Tārā,
འགྲོ་བ་གཅིག་ཀྱང་མ་ལུས་པ། །
drowa chik kyang malüpa
And bring every single living being
དེ་ཡི་ས་ལ་འགོད་པར་ཤོག །
dé yi sa la göpar shok
To her perfect state as well.
Prayer of Auspiciousness
ཡིད་བཞིན་ནོར་དང་བུམ་པ་བཟང་པོ་ལྟར། །
yizhin nor dang bumpa zangpo tar
Like the wish-granting jewel, the vase of abundance,
བསམ་པའི་དོན་ཀུན་ཐོགས་མེད་སྩོལ་མཛད་པ། །
sampé dön kün tokmé tsol dzepa
Without any obstacle, you fulfill my every wish.
རྗེ་བཙུན་སྒྲོལ་མ་རྒྱལ་བ་སྲས་བཅས་ཀྱིས། །
jetsün drolma gyalwa sé ché kyi
Tārā sublime, Buddhas and Bodhisattvas,
མི་འབྲལ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་སྐྱོང་བའི་བཀྲ་ཤིས་ཤོག །
mindral tukjé kyongwé tashi shok
Let everything be auspicious, so I never part from your caring compassion.
ཅེས་སོགས་ཤིས་པ་བརྗོད་ལ་མེ་ཏོག་འཐོར་རོ། །
Recite auspicious verses and throw flowers.
ཅེས་པ་ལས་དགོངས་གཏེར་ཟབ་ཏིག་སྒྲོལ་མའི་གཏེར་གཞུང་ཆོག་བསྒྲིགས་བསྡུས་པ་འདི་ཡབ་རྗེ་དམ་པའི་ཞལ་སློབ་འཇར་མན་འོད་གསལ་རྡོ་རྗེ་ནས་བསྐུལ་བ་བཞིན་རྩི་ཀི་མཆོག་གླིང་སྐྱེས་སྤྲུལ་བཞི་པ་མི་འགྱུར་བདེ་བའི་རྡོ་རྗེ་ནས་ཆོག་བསྒྲིགས་བྲིས་པའོ།། །།
This abbreviated ritual liturgy for the Mind Treasure, Tārā’s Profound Essence, was arranged by the Fourth Tsikey Chokling Rinpoche, Mingyur Dewé Dorjé, at the request of Ösal Dorjé from Germany, a close disciple of my own spiritual father.2
