from A Shower of Precious Blessings

by Chokgyur Dechen Lingpa

khyenrab pakpa jampal yang dang nyam

Your wisdom is equal to that of noble Mañjuśrī,

tsewé tukjé chenrezik dang tsung

Your loving compassion is like Avalokiteśvara’s.

nüpa sangwé dakpor yermé ching

Your power is indivisible from the Lord of Secrets—

nyingtik ter gyi kabab ledrel tsal

Ledrel Tsal, recipient of the Heart-Essence treasures,2

pemé gyaltsab drimé özer drak

Regent of the Lotus-Born, renowned as Drimé Özer,

bimala yi jezung samyé pa

Resident of Samyé embraced by Vimala,

longchen rabjam zhab la solwa deb

Longchen Rabjam, at your feet I pray!

Khenpo Pema Lodrö Sangyé Chöpel,3 who is unmatched in the three trainings in these degenerate times, said that there was a need for a prayer like this that could be chanted aloud by the monastic assembly. In response, Chokgyur Lingpa wrote this on the tenth day of the waxing phase of the month. May this bring goodness!

  1. The original text is untitled; this title has been added by the translators.
  2. Pema Ledrel Tsal (1231/2?-1307?) was the reincarnation of Princess Pema Sel to whom Guru Rinpoche had entrusted the transmission of the Heart-Essence of the Ḍākinīs in the eighth century. Pema Ledrel Tsal withdrew the terma of the Heart-Essence of the Ḍākinīs from its place of concealment at the Daklha Tramo Drak rock in the province of Dakpo, but only partially decoded it during his life. He then transmitted these teachings to his main disciple Gyalsé Lekden. Pema Ledrel Tsal was reincarnated as the Omniscient Longchenpa, who received the whole cycle of the Heart-Essence of the Ḍākinīs from Gyalsé Lekden, and by so doing, ensured that the authentic lineage was kept alive.
  3. More commonly known as Karme Khenpo Rinchen Dargye.
