Tantra That Is the Buddhas’ Only Child

English | བོད་ཡིག

The Seed Tantra That Is the Buddhas’ Only Child

from the Khandro Nyingtik

In the Kalapingka yoginī language: buddha guttha kshu emna
In the language of Tibet: sangs rgyas sras gcig spyod pa sa bon gyi rgyud[1]
In the English language: The Effective Seed Tantra That Is the Only Child of All the Buddhas

Homage to the expanse of spontaneously arisen actuality.

The teacher, Samantabhadra and consort,
Spoke from the natural expanse:

"Retinue of the fundamental nature’s self-expression, listen.
This sole, all-embracing, naturally arisen awareness
Is the only child of all the buddhas.
This empty tila carries out activities.
It is the seed of Samantabhadra.
All arise from, and are freed in, this.
This self-arisen, sole, all-embracing tantra
Brings those who see, hear or keep it to awakening."

This concludes the Seed Tantra That Is the Buddhas’ Only Child.

It bears the seal of enlightened body, the seal of enlightenment speech, and the seal of enlightened mind.

Gya. Gya. Gya.

  1. Erik Pema Kunsang translates a virtually identical text that has cod pan (crown, diadem) here in place of spyod pa (active, effective) in the title. See A Tibetan Buddhist Companion, p. 236. The commentary included within the Khandro Nyingtik explains that the tantra is effective/functional (spyod pa) insofar as it eliminates the demon of egotism.  ↩
