The Hook of Abundance

A King Gesar Practice for Summoning Abundance and Prosperity

བཀྲ་ཤིས་ཕྱྭ་ཆ་གཡང་རྟེན་དང༌། །
ཡིད་འོང་མཆོད་པ་རྒྱ་ཆེར་བཤམས། །
ལྷ་སྔགས་ཏིང་འཛིན་གཟི་བྱིན་བསྐྱེད། །
མདའ་དར་གཡབ་ཅིང་འདི་སྐད་བསྐུལ།

Gather articles of auspiciousness and prosperity,
Supports for abundance, and copious beautiful offerings.
Imbue them with magnificence through the practice of deity, mantra, and samādhi.
Hold the ribboned arrow and say the following to summon abundance and prosperity:

ཧཱུྃ། སྣང་སྟོང་རོལ་པ་ཆེན་པོ་ལས། །

hung, nangtong rolpa chenpo lé

Hūṃ. From the great display of empty appearances,

ཤར་ཕྱོགས་རྨ་གཡང་ཆགས་པའི་ཡུལ། །

sharchok mayang chakpé yul

In the east, the land of Ma where fortune abounds,

བཀྲ་ཤིས་གངས་དཀར་རི་ཡི་སྤོ། །

tashi gangkar ri yi po

At the summit of the auspicious white snow mountain,

བདུད་རྩིའི་སྤྲིན་བཟང་ཏ་ལ་ལ། །

dütsi trin zang tala la

Excellent clouds of nectar rise and billow—ta la la!

དབང་གི་གློག་དམར་ཁྱུགས་སེ་ཁྱུག །

wang gi lok mar khyuk sé khyuk

The red lightning of magnetizing flashes—khyuk se khyuk!

སྙན་གྲགས་གཡུ་འབྲུག་འུ་རུ་རུ། །

nyendrak yu druk u ru ru

The turquoise dragon’s roar of fame thunders—wu ru ru!

བདེ་སྐྱིད་སྦྲང་ཆར་ཤ་ར་ར། །

dekyi drang char sha ra ra

The gentle rain of happiness and well-being falls—sha ra ra!

ཕྱྭ་གཡང་ན་བུན་ཐིབས་སེ་ཐིབ། །

cha yang nabün tib sé tib

The mist of abundance and prosperity gathers—tip se tip!

འཇའ་ཟེར་མེ་ཏོག་ཐོ་ལོ་ལོ། །

jazer metok to lo lo

Flowers and rainbow-coloured rays fall like rain—to lo lo!

སྨན་སྤོས་དྲི་བཟང་དུངས་སེ་དུང༌། །

men pö dri zang dung sé dung

And the scent of medicinal incense perfumes the air—dung se dung!

དེ་འདྲའི་མཐོང་བ་ཀུན་སྨོན་གླིང༌། །

dendré tongwa kün mön ling

In this marvellous Land of Ling, a place desired by all who see it,

ངོ་མཚར་ནོར་བུའི་ཕོ་བྲང་ན། །

ngotsar norbü podrang na

Stands the extraordinary Jewel Palace

དཔའ་བོ་གླིང་གི་རྒྱལ་པོ་ནི། །

pawo ling gi gyalpo ni

Where the fearless king of Ling resides,

གཡང་འཕེལ་ཀུན་གྱི་གཡང་ཆེན་པོ། །

yang pel kün gyi yang chenpo

Endowed with the great spirit of abundance that increases prosperity.

བདེ་སྟོང་མཉམ་པའི་ཡེ་ཤེས་ཐུགས། །

detong nyampé yeshe tuk

While his mind is primordial wisdom, the equality of bliss and emptiness,

རིགས་གསུམ་པདྨའི་སྒྱུ་འཕྲུལ་གར། །

rik sum pemé gyutrul gar

He appears as the magical dance of Padma and the Three Families,

མ་སངས་གཡང་གི་ནོར་བུ་བཞུགས། །

ma sang yang gi norbu zhuk

In the form of Gesar, Masang Jewel of Abundance.

འཁོར་ལོས་བསྒྱུར་བའི་རྒྱལ་པོའི་ཚུལ། །

khorlö gyurwé gyalpö tsul

He has the appearance of a universal monarch.

ཞལ་མཛེས་བཀྲག་སྣུམ་ཡ་ལ་ལ། །

zhal dzé trak num ya la la

His beautiful face is dazzling—ya la la!

གསེར་འཁོར་ནོར་བུ་བསམ་འཕེལ་འཛིན། །

ser khor norbu sampel dzin

He holds the golden wheel of royal rule and the wish-granting jewel,

དཔའ་བརྟུལ་དྭངས་སྨན་ཝེར་མ་དང༌། །

pa tul dangmen werma dang

Mighty warriors, beautiful maidens, and wermas all around him.

རྒྱབ་བརྟེན་རྨ་རྒྱལ་སྤོམ་ར་ནི། །

gyab ten magyal pomra ni

He leans against Magyal Pomra,

རྨ་རིགས་སུམ་བརྒྱ་དྲུག་ཅུས་བསྐོར། །

ma rik sumgya drukchü kor

Who is surrounded by his three hundred and sixty brothers of the Ma clan.

རྒྱལ་མཚན་བ་དན་ནམ་མཁར་ཕྱར། །

gyaltsen baden namkhar char

Victory banners and flags are hoisted high in the sky,

དཔའ་བོ་གླིང་གི་སྐྱིད་བྲོ་ལ། །

pawo ling gi kyi dro la

And the warriors whirl in the beautiful dance of Ling,

ངོ་མཚར་ཕྱྭ་དང་གཡང་གི་དཔལ། །

ngotsar cha dang yang gi pal

Amidst the glory of his astounding abundance and fortune.

དེ་རིང་དམ་ལྡན་རྣལ་འབྱོར་པས། །

dering damden naljorpé

On this very day, the yogins who keep samaya

མཆོད་པའི་ལས་ལ་སྤྱན་འདྲེན་ན། །

chöpé lé la chendren na

Invite you to this offering ceremony—

ཐོགས་པ་མེད་པར་འདིར་གཤེགས་ལ། །

tokpa mepar dir shek la

Come without any hesitation!

མཆོད་དོ་བསྟོད་དོ་ཐུགས་དམ་བསྐུལ། །

chö do tö do tukdam kul

We make offerings to you, we praise you, we invoke your sacred vows—

བཀྲ་ཤིས་གཡང་གི་བྱིན་ཆེན་ཕོབ། །

tashi yang gi jin chen pob

Pour a torrential rain of auspiciousness and abundance,

སྣོད་བཅུད་བདེ་དྲོད་གཟི་མདངས་སྤོར། །

nöchü dé drö zidang por

Heighten the blissful heat and the radiance of the universe and its inhabitants,

ཆོས་སྐྱོང་དམ་ཅན་དམ་ལ་གནས། །

chökyong damchen dam la né

Encourage the samaya-bound dharma protectors to abide by their pledges,

དགྲ་བླ་ཝེར་མ་མཐུ་ཡང་ཆེ། །

drala werma tu yang ché

Increase the power of the dralas and wermas for evermore,

གནོད་སྦྱིན་གཏེར་བདག་ལས་ལ་དབང༌། །

nöjin terdak lé la wang

And direct the activities of the yakṣas who guard treasures.

དེ་རིང་བསྐུལ་ལོ་སྙིང་གི་ལྷ། །

dering kul lo nying gi lha

Today, I call on you, deity of my heart—

ཐོགས་མེད་དབང་གི་འོད་ཟེར་གྱིས། །

tokmé wang gi özer gyi

With your unhindered magnetizing rays of light,

སྟེང་འོག་ཕྱོགས་མཚམས་གནས་པ་ཡི། །

tengok choktsam nepa yi

Bring the auspiciousness, happiness, well-being, prosperity, abundance,

བཀྲ་ཤིས་བདེ་སྐྱིད་ཕྱྭ་དང་གཡང༌། །

tashi dekyi cha dang yang

Strength, wealth, resourcefulness, longevity, brilliance, radiance,

སྟོབས་འབྱོར་ནུས་པ་ཚེ་བཀྲག་མདངས། །

tobjor nüpa tsé trakdang

And the spirit of abundance that attracts victory against every adversity

ཕྱོགས་ལས་རྣམ་པར་རྒྱལ་བའི་གཡང༌། །

chok lé nampar gyalwé yang

And every speck of food, cloth, and possessions

ཟས་གོས་དཔལ་ཡོན་མ་ལུས་པ། །

zegö palyön malüpa

That originate in any direction, including above and below!

འོད་ལྔའི་ཐིག་ལེའི་རྣམ་པ་རུ། །

ö ngé tiklé nampa ru

Bring them here as orbs of bright five-coloured light—

འདིར་ཁུག་འདིར་སྡུས་འདིར་སྟིམས་ལ། །

dir khuk dir dü dir tim la

Draw them in! Gather them! Dissolve them

ཕྱྭ་ཆ་གཡང་གི་རྫས་རྣམས་དང༌། །

cha cha yang gi dzé nam dang

Into the articles of abundance and the substances of prosperity,

རྣལ་འབྱོར་ལུས་ངག་ཡིད་གསུམ་ལ། །

naljor lü ngak yi sum la

And into the yogins’ body, speech, and mind,

བྱང་ཆུབ་བར་དུ་མི་འབྲལ་བར། །

changchub bardu mindral bar

So that they remain inseparable from them until enlightenment!

ནོར་བུ་བུམ་བཟང་དཔག་བསམ་ཤིང༌། །

norbu bum zang paksam shing

Like the excellent vase of jewels, the wish-fulfilling tree,

གསེར་གྱི་སྙིང་པོའི་སྤྲིན་བཞིན་དུ། །

ser gyi nyingpö trin zhindu

And the cloud of pure gold,

དགོས་འདོད་ཆར་པ་རྟག་ཏུ་ཕོབ། །

gödö charpa taktu pob

Always pour down a rain of every need and want!

འདོད་རྒུའི་འབྱོར་པ་མཚོ་ལྟར་བསྐྱིལ། །

dögü jorpa tso tar kyil

Gather them in lakes of wealth made of everything desirable!

སྟོབས་དཔལ་མཐུ་ནུས་གོང་དུ་འཕེལ། །

tob pal tu nü gong du pel

Increase our strength, excellence, power, and ability!

རིགས་ཁམས་རྩ་རླུང་ཉམས་པ་གསོས། །

rik kham tsalung nyampa sö

Restore any deterioration in our potential, constituents, nāḍi, and prāṇa!

བཀྲ་ཤིས་ཕྱྭ་གཡང་གཟི་བྱིན་སྤོར། །

tashi cha yang zijin por

Increase the splendour of our prosperity, abundance, and good fortune!

རེ་འབྲས་ད་ལྟ་ཉིད་དུ་སྨོན། །

ré dré danta nyi du mön

Bring our hopes and wishes to fruition here and now!

སྲིད་ཞིའི་དྭངས་བཅུད་དབང་གྱུར་ནས། །

sizhi dangchü wang gyur né

Give us control over the vital essence of saṃsāra and nirvāṇa,

འདོད་པ་ཆོས་ཀྱི་དབྱིངས་སུ་ནི། །

döpa chö kyi ying su ni

So that our every need is fulfilled within the basic space of dharmadhātu

མཐར་ཕྱིན་ཡེ་ཤེས་སྐུ་རུ་སྨིན། །

tarchin yeshe ku ru min

And we mature into wisdom kāyas!

མཁའ་ཁྱབ་འགྲོ་ལ་ཕན་བདེའི་ཆར། །

khakhyab dro la pendé char

Shower down everywhere, at all times and spontaneously,

རྟག་ཁྱབ་ལྷུན་གྲུབ་འབེབས་པར་མཛོད། །

tak khyab lhündrub bebpar dzö

A rain of benefit and happiness on all beings who pervade space!

ཨོཾ་ཧེ་ཧེ་ཏིཥྛ་ཏིཥྛ་བྷནྡྷ་བྷནྡྷ་དྷ་ར་ཡ་དྷ་ར་ཡ་ནི་རུནྡྷ་ནི་རུནྡྷ། ཨུརྞྞ་མ་ཎི་ཡེ་སྭཱ་ཧཱ།

om hé hé tishta tishta bhenda bhenda dharaya dharaya nirundha nirundha urna maniyé soha

oṃ he he tiṣṭha tiṣṭha bhandha bhandha dhāraya dhāraya | nirundha nirundha | urṇa maṇiye svāhā

ཨོཾ་ཁུ་ཡེ་ཁུ་ཡེ་ཕྱྭ་ཁུ་ཡེ། ཁུ་ཡེ་ཁུ་ཡེ་གཡང་ཁུ་ཡེ། ཧཱུ་ཡེ་ཧུ་ཡེ་མ་ཧཱ་ཤྲཱི་ཡེ་བི་ཛ་ཡ་འདུ།

om khuyé khuyé cha khuyé | khuyé khuyé yang khuyé | huyé huyé maha shiri yé vidzaya du

om khuye khuye cha khuye | khuye khuye yang khuye | huye huye mahā śrīye vijaya du

བདེ་སྐྱིད་དཔལ་འབྱོར་ཐམས་ཅད་པུཥྟི་ཀུ་རུ་ཡེ་སྭཱ་ཧཱ།

dekyi paljor tamché pushting kuru yé soha

dekyi paljor tamche puṣṭiṃ kuruye svāhā¹

ཞེས་བྱའོ། །

མཐའ་བཞིའི་རྒྱལ་ཁམས་བྲན་བསྒྱུར་བའི། །
སེང་ཆེན་ནོར་བུ་དགྲ་འདུལ་ཉིད། །
རྟེན་འབྲེལ་དུས་དང་སྨོན་ལམ་གྱིས། །
ཕན་བྱེད་ལྷ་ཡི་རྒྱལ་པོར་གྱུར། །

Sengchen Norbu Dradül,
Who enslaved the four border kingdoms
Became, with interdependence, time, and aspirations,
The king of beneficent deities.

དེ་ཕྱིར་ཕུན་ཚོགས་དཔལ་ཀུན་དང༌། །
ཕྱོགས་ལས་རྣམ་པར་རྒྱལ་བའི་གཡང༌། །
སྔོན་བྱོན་མཁས་གྲུབ་དུ་མ་ཡི། །
ཐུགས་མཛོད་དཔལ་གྱི་བེའུ་ནས། །
འདི་ཡི་གཡང་སྒྲུབ་མ་ཎི་ཀ །
གཞན་ལ་མི་སྣང་རྒྱས་བཏབ་ན། །
རང་བཞིན་འདོད་རྒུ་འཇོ་ཞེས་གྲགས། །
དེ་ཡི་རྟེན་འབྲེལ་གསང་བའི་གནད། །
ཅུང་ཟད་བླ་མ་ཡི་དམ་གྱི། །
བྱིན་རླབས་མཐུ་ཡིས་ཡིད་ཆེས་པས། །
དེ་ཚེ་དགེ་བའི་སེམས་ཀྱིས་བྲིས། །

That is why I have written down at this time, with the wish to do something positive,
This jewel of prosperity practice
Called “The Natural Accomplishment of Every Desire,”
Which brings an abundance of all the most excellent things
And victory against every adversity.
Though it was born of the glorious knot—the treasury of the heart—
Of many learned and accomplished masters of the past,
It was kept sealed and was not revealed to others.
I wrote down these secret key points of interdependence
Thanks to the power of the lama and yidam’s blessings
That brought me a little confidence.

རབ་ཚེས་ཆུ་བྱ་ཟླ་༦ཚེས་༡༡ལ་རྫོང་གསར་བཀྲ་ཤིས་ལྷ་རྩེར་མི་ཕམ་པས་བྲིས་པའོ། །མངྒ་ལཾ། །ཀ་ཡ་ཨར་ཨ་སྨད། འདུ་སྨད་ཐི་ཕན། མངྒ་ལཾ། །

This was written by Mipham at Dzongsar Tashi Lhatsé on the eleventh day of the sixth month of the Water Bird year in the fifteenth calendrical cycle (1873). Maṅgalam. kaya ar a me. du me ti pen. Maṅgalam.
