Longchen Nyingtik Lineage Prayer

༄༅། །ཀློང་ཆེན་སྙིང་ཐིག་གི་བླ་བརྒྱུད་གསོལ་འདེབས་གསུང་རྒྱུན་མ་བཞུགས།

Supplication to the Lineage of the Heart-Essence of the Vast Expanse

Prayer to the Gurus of the Lineage

ཀུན་བཟང་རྡོར་སེམས་དགའ་རབ་ཤྲཱི་སིང༌། །

kunzang dorsem garab shiri sing

Samantabhadra, Vajrasattva, Garab Dorje, Śrī Siṃha,

པདྨཱ་ཀ་ར་རྗེ་འབངས་ཉི་ཤུ་ལྔ། །

pema kara jebang nyishu nga

Padmākara and the twenty five disciples—king and subjects,

སོ་ཟུར་གནུབས་ཉང་གཏེར་སྟོན་བརྒྱ་རྩ་སོགས། །

so zur nub nyak tertön gyatsa sok

So, Zur, Nub, Nyang,¹ the hundred treasure-revealers and all the rest—

བཀའ་གཏེར་བླ་མ་རྣམས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

kater lama nam la solwa deb

Gurus of kama and terma, I supplicate you.

Prayer to Longchenpa

འཛམ་གླིང་མཛེས་པའི་རྒྱན་དྲུག་མཆོག་གཉིས་དང༌། །

dzamling dzepé gyen druk chok nyi dang

Just like the Six Ornaments and Two Supreme Ones who beautify our world,

ཐུགས་རྗེ་ལུང་རྟོགས་མཉམ་པའི་མཐུ་མངའ་ཡང༌། །

tukjé lungtok nyampé tu nga yang

You were their equal in your mastery of compassion, learning and realization,

ནགས་ཁྲོད་དམ་པར་སྦས་པའི་བརྟུལ་ཞུགས་ཀྱིས། །

naktrö dampar bepé tulzhuk kyi

Yet you practised hidden in the forest in sacred solitude.

འཁོར་འདས་ཆོས་སྐུར་རྫོགས་པའི་ཀློང་ཆེན་པ། །

Longchenpa, who perfected saṃsāra and nirvāṇa in the state of dharmakāya,

ཤེས་བྱ་ཀུན་མཁྱེན་འགྲོ་ལ་རྗེས་བརྩེའི་གཏེར། །

The source of love and compassion for all beings, who knows all that is knowable,

དྲི་མེད་འོད་ཟེར་ཡང་སྤྲུལ་ཐུགས་གཏེར་མཛོད། །

trimé özer yangtrul tuk ter dzö

You are the emanation of Longchenpa, and heir to a treasury of mind termas;

Sky-like yogin of the vast expanse of luminosity,

Jigme Lingpa, at your feet I supplicate.

དུས་གསུམ་ཀུན་མཁྱེན་པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་དང་། །

Emanation of the great tertön Sangye Lingpa,

དབྱེར་མེད་གཏེར་ཆེན་སངས་རྒྱས་གླིང་པ་ཡི། །

Who was indivisible from Padmasambhava, knower of the three times,

ཡང་སྤྲུལ་སྦས་པའི་རྣལ་འབྱོར་ཟོལ་བྲལ་བ། །

You are free of deceit and a hidden yogi—

Prayer to Jigme Gyalwe Nyugu

འཕགས་པ་འཇིག་རྟེན་དབང་ཕྱུག་ཐུགས་རྗེས་འཕྲུལ། །

Compassionate emanation of the Noble Lord of the World,²

འགྲོ་བ་ཐར་གླིང་བགྲོད་པའི་དེད་དཔོན་མཆོག །

drowa tar ling dröpé depön chok

You are the most excellent guide, leading beings to the isle of liberation,

འབྲེལ་ཚད་དོན་ལྡན་ཀློང་ཆེན་རྣལ་འབྱོར་པ། །

dreltsé dönden longchen naljorpa

Yogin of the vast expanse, benefiting all you encounter—

འཇིགས་མེད་རྒྱལ་བའི་མྱུ་གུར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

jikme gyalwé nyugur solwa deb

Jigme Gyalwe Nyugu, I supplicate you.

Prayer to the Fourth Dzogchen Rinpoche, Mingyur Namkhe Dorje

དུས་གསུམ་རྒྱལ་བའི་སྤྱི་གཟུགས་པདྨ་འབྱུང༌། །

dü sum gyalwé chi zuk pémajung

Padmasambhava, embodiment of all buddhas, past, present and future,

འཇའ་ལུས་རྡོ་རྗེའི་སྐུ་བརྙེས་བི་མ་ལ། །

jalü dorjéi ku nyé bimala

And Vimalamitra, who attained the indestructible rainbow body—

དབྱེར་མེད་ཐུགས་རྗེ་གཅིག་ཏུ་བསྡུས་པའི་དཔལ། །

yermé tukjé chik tu düpé pal

You are inseparable from them, the splendid embodiment of their compassion,

མི་འགྱུར་ནམ་མཁའི་རྡོ་རྗེར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

Prayer to Gyalse Shenpen Taye

རྒྱལ་སྲས་ཀུན་གྱི་བགྲོད་པ་གཅིག་པུའི་ལམ། །

gyalsé kün gyi dröpa chikpü lam

Having realized the altruistic mind of bodhicitta,

གཞན་ཕན་བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་སུ་ངེས་པའི་ཚུལ། །

zhenpen changchub sem su ngepé tsul

The sole path traversed by the all the bodhisattvas, exactly as it is,

ཇི་བཞིན་རྟོགས་ནས་མཐའ་ཡས་འགྲོ་བ་ལ། །

jizhin tok né tayé drowa la

You reveal it to limitless beings—

སྟོན་མཛད་དྲིན་ཆེན་བླ་མར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

tön dzé drinchen lamar solwa deb

Benevolent guru, I supplicate you.

Prayer to Do Khyentse

མངོན་རྫོགས་ཞིང་ན་ཁྲག་འཐུང་ཧེ་རུ་ཀ །

ngöndzok zhing na traktung heruka

In the Truly Perfected Realm you are the heruka,

རྔ་ཡབ་གླིང་ན་པདྨ་ཐོད་ཕྲེང་རྩལ། །

ngayab ling na pema tötreng tsal

In Cāmara, Powerful Lotus Garland of Skulls,³

བྷོ་ཊའི་ལྗོངས་སུ་འཇའ་ལུས་རྡོ་རྗེའི་ཞབས། །

bhoté jong su jalü dorjé zhab

In Tibet, the honourable Jalü Dorje—

འཇིགས་མེད་ཡེ་ཤེས་རྡོ་རྗེར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

Jigme Yeshe Dorje, I supplicate you.

Prayer to Patrul Rinpoche

ཕྱི་ལྟར་རྒྱལ་བའི་སྲས་པོ་ཞི་བ་ལྷ། །

chitar gyalwé sepo zhiwalha

Outwardly, you are the bodhisattva Śāntideva,

ནང་ལྟར་གྲུབ་པའི་དབང་ཕྱུག་ཤ་ཝ་རི། །

nangtar drubpé wangchuk shawari

Inwardly, the lord of siddhas Śavari,

གསང་བ་འཕགས་མཆོག་སྡུག་བསྔལ་རང་གྲོལ་དངོས། །

sangwa pakchok dukngal rangdrol ngö

Secretly, the supremely noble Natural Liberation of Suffering⁴ in person—

འཇིགས་མེད་ཆོས་ཀྱི་དབང་པོར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

Prayer to Khenpo Pema Vajra

བརྒྱུད་གསུམ་རིག་འཛིན་ལྷ་དང་མཁའ་འགྲོ་ཡིས། །

gyü sum rigdzin lha dang khandro yi

Through the blessing of the vidyādharas of the three lineages,

བྱིན་རླབས་འཕོས་པས་སྨིན་གྲོལ་གདམས་ཟབ་ཀྱི། །

jinlab pöpé mindrol dam zab kyi

Deities and ḍākinīs, you became heir of the profound instructions that mature and liberate.

སྲོལ་བརྙེས་བརྒྱུད་འཛིན་བཀའ་བབས་དོན་དང་ལྡན། །

sol nyé gyü dzin kabab dön dangden

Holder of the modes of transmission—

པདྨ་བཛྲ་ཞབས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

pema benza zhab la solwa deb

Pema Vajra, I supplicate at your feet.

Prayer to Khyentse Wangpo

འཕགས་ཡུལ་གྲུབ་པའི་སློབ་དཔོན་མཉྗུ་ཤྲཱི། །

pakyul drubpé lobpön manjushri

In the noble land you were the accomplished master Mañjuśrīmitra,

གངས་ལྗོངས་འཇམ་དཔལ་དབྱངས་དངོས་ཁྲི་སྲོང་རྗེ། །

gangjong jampal yang ngö trisong jé

In the Land of Snow, Lord Tri Songdetsen—Mañjuśrī in person,

དེང་འདིར་ཀུན་མཁྱེན་ཆོས་ཀྱི་རྒྱལ་པོ་དང་། །

dengdir künkhyen chö kyi gyalpo dang

Now, you are indivisible from the omniscient King of the Dharma—

དབྱེར་མེད་མཁྱེན་རྩེའི་དབང་པོར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

Khyentse Wangpo, I supplicate you.

Prayer to Jamgön Kongtrul

ཤེས་བྱ་ཀུན་གཟིགས་ཡོན་ཏན་རྒྱ་མཚོའི་གཏེར། །

sheja künzik yönten gyatsö ter

Knower of all, treasury of an ocean of qualities,⁵

རྒྱལ་བས་ལུང་བསྟན་བློ་གྲོས་མཐའ་ཡས་ཞབས། །

gyalwé lungten lodrö tayé zhab

Lodrö Taye, the one prophesied by the Victorious One;

རིགས་ཀུན་ཁྱབ་བདག་པདྨ་གར་གྱི་དབང་། །

rik künkhyab dak pema gar gyi wang

Pema Gargyi Wangpo, holder of all lineages,

འཛམ་གླིང་ཤིང་རྟ་ཆེན་པོར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

dzam ling shingta chenpor solwa deb

Great Charioteer of the world, I supplicate you.

Prayer to Mipham Rinpoche

རིག་སྟོང་འཇམ་དཔལ་གཞོན་ནུའི་བྱིན་རླབས་ལས། །

riktong jampal zhönnü jinlab lé

Through the blessings of the youthful Mañjuśrī, awareness and emptiness conjoined,

དགོངས་པའི་ཀློང་ལས་སྤོབས་པའི་གཏེར་བརྒྱད་གྲོལ། །

gongpé long lé pobpé ter gyé drol

The eight treasures of confidence arose from the expanse of your realization,

ལུང་རྟོགས་ཆོས་མཛོད་རྒྱ་མཚོའི་མངའ་བདག་ཆེ་། །

lungtok chö dzö gyatsö ngadak ché

Master of ocean-like Dharma treasures of transmission and realization—

ཨ་ཛི་ཏ་བི་ཛ་ཡ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

ཨོ་རྒྱན་རིག་འཛིན་ཆེན་པོའི་རིང་ལུགས་ཀྱི། །

Holder of the victory banner of the teachings of learning and practice

བཤད་སྒྲུབ་བསྟན་པའི་རྒྱལ་མཚན་འཛིན་མཛད་ཅིང་། །

shedrub tenpé gyaltsen dzin dzé ching

In the lineage of the great vidyādhara of Uḍḍiyāna—

ཡོན་ཏན་ནོར་བུའི་མཛོད་མངའ་ཆོས་ཀྱི་རྗེ། །

yönten norbu dzö nga chö kyi jé

Lord of Dharma, you are truly a treasury of precious qualities,

དཔལ་ལྡན་བླ་མའི་ཞབས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

palden lamé zhab la solwa deb

Glorious guru, I supplicate you.

Prayer to Adzom Drukpa Drodul Pawo Dorje

འཁོར་འདས་ཆོས་ཀུན་འོད་གསལ་ཆེན་པོར་དག །

khordé chö kün ösal chenpor dak

Having purified saṃsāra and nirvāṇa within luminosity,

སྣ་ཚོགས་འཁྲུལ་པ་ཟང་ཐལ་དབྱིངས་སུ་ཟད། །

natsok trulpa zangtal ying su zé

You caused the various manifestations of delusion to fade within the space of utter transparency

རང་གྲོལ་ཆོས་ཟད་དགོངས་ཀློང་མངོན་གྱུར་པ། །

rangdrol chö zé gong long ngöngyur pa

And realized natural liberation, the exhaustion of phenomena, within the expanse of wisdom—

གར་དབང་བཞད་པའི་རྡོ་རྗེར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

gar wang zhepé dorjér solwa deb

Garwang Shyepe Dorje, I supplicate you.

Prayer to the Third Dodrupchen Jigme Tenpe Nyima

འཇིགས་མེད་ཐེག་མཆོག་ཆོས་ཀྱི་འཁོར་ལོས་བསྒྱུར། །

jikme tek chok chö kyi khorlö gyur

Fearlessly you turned the wheel of the supreme vehicle’s teaching;

བཤད་སྒྲུབ་བསྟན་པའི་ཉི་མ་ཐམས་ཅད་མཁྱེན། །

shedrub tenpé nyima tamché khyen

Omniscient Sun of the Teachings of study and practice,

འོད་གསལ་རྡོ་རྗེ་སྙིང་པོའི་བསྟན་སྲོག་འཛིན། །

ösal dorjé nyingpö ten sokdzin

You hold the life-force of the luminous, indestructible essence—

ཀུན་མཁྱེན་མཁས་གྲུབ་དབང་པོར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

All-knowing lord of scholars and adepts, I supplicate you.

Prayer to Könchok Drakpa⁶

འཇིགས་མེད་བཀའ་གཏེར་བསྟན་པའི་ཤིང་རྟ་ཆེ། །

jikme kater tenpé shingta ché

Fearless charioteer of kama and terma, lord of scholars and adepts,

ཀུན་བཟང་པདྨའི་རིང་ལུགས་ཟབ་རྒྱས་ཀྱི། །

kunzang pemé ringluk zabgyé kyi

With your brilliant mind you opened the gateways of the maturing and liberating instructions

སྨིན་གྲོལ་སྒོ་འབྱེད་བློ་གསལ་མཁས་གྲུབ་དབང་། །

mindrol gojé losal khedrub wang

Of the ever-excellent Padmasambhava’s lineage—

དཀོན་མཆོག་གྲགས་པའི་ཞབས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

könchok drakpé zhab la solwa deb

Könchok Drakpa, I supplicate you.

Prayer to Shechen Gyaltsab Gyurme Pema Namgyal

ངེས་གསང་སྙིང་པོའི་བསྟན་པའི་མཛོད་འཛིན་པས། །

ngé sang nyingpö tenpé dzö dzinpé

Magnificent and glorious lord, by upholding the treasury of the teachings of the definitive, secret essence,

དགོངས་བརྡ་སྙན་བརྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་ཚོགས་རྣམས་ཀྱི། །

gong da nyengyü lamé tsok nam kyi

You became the sole embodiment of the wisdom all of the gurus

ཡེ་ཤེས་གཅིག་ཏུ་བསྡོམས་པའི་སྤྱི་དཔལ་མཆོག །

yeshe chik tu dompé chi pal chok

Of the direct, symbolic and ear-whispered traditions—

ཨོ་རྒྱན་ཐུགས་མཆོག་རྡོ་རྗེར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

orgyen tuk chok dorjé ra solwa deb

Orgyen Tukchok Dorje, I supplicate you.

Prayer to Nyoshul Lungtok Tenpe Nyima

ཆོས་བརྒྱད་མདུད་པ་རོ་སྙོམས་ངང་དུ་ཞིག །

chö gyé düpa ronyom ngang du zhik

By realizing all things to be of one taste, you released the knots of the eight worldly dharmas.

བློས་བྱས་རི་མོ་ཀ་དག་དབྱིངས་སུ་ཡལ། །

löjé rimo kadak ying su yal

Within the primordially pure expanse, mentally created images dissolved

རྫོགས་པ་ཆེན་པོའི་གནས་ལུགས་མངོན་སུམ་གཟིགས། །

dzogpachenpö neluk ngönsum zik

And you directly beheld the Great Perfection’s way of abiding—

ལུང་རྟོགས་བསྟན་པའི་ཉི་མར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

lungtok tenpé nyimar solwa deb

Lungtok Tenpe Nyima, I supplicate you.

Prayer to Khenpo Ngawang Palzang

ས་མཆོག་དཀྱིལ་འཁོར་མངོན་གྱུར་བི་མ་ལ། །

sa chok kyilkhor ngöngyur bimala

Ngakgi Wangpo, the indivisible union of

ཀུན་བཟང་ཆོས་སྐུའི་སྟོན་པ་ཀློང་ཆེན་པ། །

kunzang chökü tönpa longchenpa

Vimalamitra, who actualized the maṇḍala of the supreme stage, and

དབྱེར་མེད་ངག་གི་དབང་པོར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

yermé ngak gi wangpor solwa deb

Longchenpa, the teacher of Samantabhadra’s truth-body:

ཐུགས་ཡིད་གཅིག་ཏུ་འདྲེས་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །

tuk yi chik tu drepar jingyi lob

I supplicate you! Pray bless me that our minds may merge as one.

Prayer to Dzongsar Khyentse Chökyi Lodrö

ཕྱི་ལྟར་རྒྱལ་སྲས་ཆོས་ཀྱི་བློ་གྲོས་རྗེ། །

chitar gyalsé chökyi lodrö jé

Outwardly, you are the bodhisattva, the lordly Chökyi Lodrö,

ནང་ལྟར་སློབ་དཔོན་འཇམ་དཔལ་བཤེས་གཉེན་ཞབས། །

nangtar lobpön shenyen zhab

Inwardly, the master Mañjuśrīmitra,

གསང་བ་མཚན་རྫོགས་ཧེ་རུ་ཀཿདཔལ་ལ། །

sangwa tsen dzok heruka pal la

Secretly, the glorious Heruka, perfect in qualities—

སྙིང་ནས་གསོལ་འདེབས་བདག་རྒྱུད་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །

nying né soldeb dak gyü jingyi lob

I supplicate you from depths of my heart: please bless my mind.

Prayer to Shechen Kongtrul Pema Drimé Lekpé Lodrö

ཀུན་བཟང་པདྨའི་རྒྱལ་ཚབ་རིག་པ་འཛིན། །

kunzang pemé gyaltsab rigpa dzin

Representative of the ever-excellent Padmasambhava, Vidyādhara Lodrö Taye,

བློ་གྲོས་མཐའ་ཡས་ཐུགས་རྗེའི་འོད་ཟེར་ལས། །

lodrö tayé tukjé özer lé

Whose compassionate mind radiates with rays of light,

ཡོངས་ཤར་གཞན་ཕན་ཕྲིན་ལས་མཐའ་ཡས་དང་། །

yong shar zhenpen trinlé tayé dang

Inducing vast altruistic activity and manifesting

དཔལ་ལྡན་བླ་མའི་ཞབས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

palden lamé zhab la solwa deb

As our glorious lama—at your feet I supplicate.

 

ཚུལ་གནས་གསན་བསམ་རྒྱ་མཚོའི་ཕ་མཐར་ཕྱིན། །

tsul né sen sam gyatsö patar chin

Having crossed the ocean of discipline, listening and contemplation,

བཤད་སྒྲུབ་སྣང་བས་ཐུབ་བསྟན་གསལ་བར་མཛད། །

shedrub nangwé tubten salwar dzé

You illuminate the Teachings of the Sage with the light of study and practice.

སྐལ་བཟང་ཀུན་དགའི་གཉེན་གྱུརབ་འགྲོ་བའི་མགོན། །

kalzang küngai nyen gyur drowé gön

Friend who delights fortunate disciples, protector of beings;

ཆོས་ཀྱི་རྒྱལ་མཚན་བླ་མར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

chö kyi gyaltsen lamar solwa deb

Guru who raises high the victory banner of Dharma, I supplicate you.

 

ཀུན་བཟང་བདེ་རྒྱལ་ཐུབ་བསྟན་ཆོས་རྡོར་དང་། །

གུ་ཎ་པདྨ་བདེ་ཆེན་ཀུན་དགའ་དཔལ། །

And Thubten Chöpel¹⁴—I supplicate you.

Prayer to Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche

ཟླ་བྲལ་མཁས་གྲུབ་རྒྱ་མཚོས་རྗེས་སུ་བཟུང་། །

dadral khedrub gyatsö jesu zung

Cared for by an ocean of masters, unrivalled in their learning and accomplishment,

རིས་མེད་ཐུབ་པའི་བསྟན་ལ་ཐོས་བསམ་མཛད། །

rimé tubpé ten la tö sam dzé

You studied and contemplated impartially on the Teachings of the Sage

བསྟན་འགྲོར་ལྷག་པའི་སེམས་ཀྱི་གོ་ཆ་ཅན། །

ten dror lhakpé sem kyi gocha chen

Armoured with the altruistic wish to benefit the teachings and beings—

འཇིགས་མེད་མཁྱེན་བརྩེ་འོད་ཟེར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

Prayer to the Root Guru

འོག་མིན་ཆོས་ཀྱི་དབྱིངས་ཀྱི་ཕོ་བྲང་ན། །

womin chö kyi ying kyi podrang na

Within the dharmadhātu palace of Akaniṣṭha

དུས་གསུམ་སངས་རྒྱས་ཀུན་གྱི་ངོ་བོ་ཉིད། །

dü sum sangye kün gyi ngowo nyi

རང་སེམས་ཆོས་སྐུ་མངོན་སུམ་སྟོན་མཛད་པའི། །

rangsem chöku ngönsum tön dzepé

Honourable root guru, you who directly introduced me

རྩ་བའི་བླ་མ་ཞབས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

tsawé lama zhab la solwa deb

To the dharmakāya nature of my mind, I supplicate you.

 

ཞེས་སྙིང་ཐིག་ཆོ་གའི་སྐབས་གར་ཡང་སྦྱར་ཆོག་པའི་བླ་བརྒྱུད་གསོལ་འདེབས་འདི་ཉིད་བརྒྱུད་པ་ཀུན་འདུས་སུ་བླ་མ་གོང་མའི་གསུང་རྒྱུན་དཀྱུས་གཅིག་ཏུ་བསྒྲིགས་པ་ལགས་སོ།། ༎

This lineage supplication is an arrangement, based on the tradition of the masters of the past, wherein all the gurus of the lineage are gathered together. It is suitable to be used for any ritual of the Heart-Essence.
