Serkong Ngawang Tsultrim Dönden (1856–1918) composed this guru yoga of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, founder of the Bhutanese state, as the embodiment of Amitāyus and Padmasambhava based on a series of visionary experiences at Kurje, Bumthang. It was later edited, supplemented and published by Jé Khenpo Gendün Rinchen.
