Prayer for the Long Life of Tulku Pema Rigtsal Rinpoche

ཨོཾ་སྭསྟི། །

om svasti

Oṃ svasti.

ལྟ་བས་ཆོས་མི་ཤེས་པ་མཚན་དཔའི་སྐུ། །

tawé chö mishepa tsen pé ku

Your kāya of marks and signs, so captivating to behold,

པདྨ་ར་གའི་འོད་ཟེར་འབར་བ་ཅན། །

pema ra gé özer barwachen

Radiates ruby-red rays of light.

འཕོ་བྲལ་ནམ་མཁའི་རང་བཞིན་ཚེ་ཡི་ལྷས། །

podral namkhé rangzhin tsé yi lhé

You are the deathless nature of space, deity of longevity—

དེང་འདིར་ཤིས་པའི་མེ་ཏོག་ཆར་དུ་ཕོབས། །

dengdir shipé metok char du pob

This very instant, rain down flowers of auspiciousness!

མཉམ་མེད་སྟོན་པ་ཐུབ་པའི་དབང་པོ་ཅན། །

nyammé tönpa tubpé wangpochen

Our matchless teacher, Lord of Munis,

ཡེ་ཤེས་ལུས་ཅན་པདྨ་སཾ་བྷ་ཝའི། །

yeshe lüchen pema sam bhavé

And Padmasambhava with his wisdom body—

མདོ་སྔགས་བསྟན་པ་འགལ་མེད་ཟུང་འཇུག་ཏུ། །

do ngak tenpa galmé zungjuk tu

Through the skill and strength of natural awareness, you uphold

རང་བྱུང་རིག་པའི་རྩལ་གྱིས་འཛིན་བྱས་ཤིང་། །

rangjung rigpé tsal gyi dzin jé shing

Their teachings of sūtra and mantra in union, without contradiction,

འབྲེལ་བཅས་འགྲོ་རྣམས་འཁོར་བའི་ཚ་གདུང་ལས། །

drel ché dro nam khorwé tsadung lé

And from the burning torment of saṃsāra, you grant the soothing shade of protection

སྐྱོབ་པའི་གྲིབ་བསིལ་རྣམ་མཁྱེན་ཞི་བའི་ས། །

kyobpé drib sil namkhyen zhiwé sa

To all beings connected with you, guiding them to the all-knowing state of peace

གང་དུ་དཀྲི་བའི་བློ་གྲོས་མཚུངས་པ་མེད། །

gangdu triwé lodrö tsungpamé

With your unequalled intelligence.

པདྨ་རིག་རྩལ་རྡོ་རྗེ་ཞབས་བརྟན་གསོལ། །

pema riktsal dorjé zhabten sol

Pema Rigtsal Dorje, may your life remain secure.

ཕྱོགས་དུས་རྒྱལ་རྣམས་དགྱེས་པ་བསྐྱེད་པའི་ལས། །

chok dü gyal nam gyepa kyepé lé

You delight the buddhas of all directions and times

རྨད་བྱུང་འཁོར་ལོ་གསུམ་གྱི་མཛད་བཟང་གིས། །

mejung khorlo sum gyi dzé zang gi

With your wondrous activities—your perfect teaching of the three wheels

རྒྱལ་བསྟན་སྤྱི་དང་རྡོ་རྗེ་ཐེག་པ་ཡི། །

gyalten chi dang dorjé tekpa yi

That raise the victory banner of the general buddhadharma and the Vajrayāna specifically.

བསྟན་པའི་རྒྱལ་མཚན་བསྒྲེང་ཁྱོད་ཞབས་བརྟན་གསོལ། །

tenpé gyaltsen dreng khyö zhabten sol

May your life remain secure!

དཔལ་ལྡན་བླ་མའི་སྐུ་ཚེ་ཡུན་དུ་བརྟན། །

palden lamé kutsé yündu ten

May the glorious guru live for a long time.

སློབ་བུའི་ཚོགས་རྣམས་ཐུགས་མཐུན་ཆོས་ཁྲིམས་གཙང་། །

lob bü tsok nam tuktün chö trim tsang

May the disciples be harmonious and maintain pure discipline.

སྦྱིང་བདག་ཚོགས་རྣམས་ཚོགས་གཉིས་རབ་རྫོགས་ཏེ། །

jing dak tsok nam tsok nyi rabdzok té

May the patrons perfect the two accumulations.

འགྲོ་ཀུན་གཏན་བདེའི་ས་ལ་ཕྱིན་གྱུར་ཅིག །

dro kün ten dé sa la chin gyur chik

Thus, may all beings reach the state of permanent happiness.

ཅེས་དད་ལྡན་ཀརྨ་ཚེ་དབང་ནས་དར་བཅས་བསྐུལ་ངོར་མེ་ཡོས་ཟླ་བ་དྲུག་པའི་ཚེས་བཞི་རྒྱལ་བས་བདེན་བཞིའི་ཆོས་ཀྱི་འཁོར་ལོ་བསྐོར་བའི་དུས་ཚེས་ཤིན་ཏུ་དགེ་བའི་ཉིན་ཕྲིན་ལས་ནོར་བུས་མཆོད་རྟེན་བྱ་རུང་ཁ་ཤོར་མདུན་བྲིས་པ་དོན་དང་ལྡན་པར་གྱུར་ཅིག།

At the request of the faithful Karma Tsewang, who offered me a silk scarf and entreated me to compose this prayer, on the fourth day of the sixth month of the Fire Rabbit year (1987), the exceptionally virtuous anniversary of Buddha turning the dharma wheel of the four truths, Thinley Norbu composed this long-life prayer in the presence of the Jarung Khashor stūpa. May it be fulfilled!
